Welcome to Squirrel Class!

We are a Year 4, 5 and 6 class with twelve students and three members of staff. We learn through a practical, thematic curriculum and this year we will be covering exciting topics such as Explosion of Colour, Space and Beside the Seaside!

We have a lovely big classroom in which we can learn, grow, and play. We do this through a mix of whole class teaching, 1:1 work, small group work, and sometimes we use workstations to help us learn. We focus on Phonics, English and Maths in the morning, and in the afternoons, we do subjects such as Science, History, Geography, Art, and ICT. To express ourselves, we do lots of planned Art, Sensory, Music and Role Play activities. This year we are very lucky to be learning how to dance with Rachel! Our learning is also being enhanced with Forest School sessions.

We also enjoy playing lots of group games during our week. These really helps us to follow instructions and practice our turn taking and listening skills. We have regular ‘movement breaks’ in between lessons where we get to have a quick dance and a ‘boogie’ to re-energise our bodies and minds. Throughout the week, we will have the opportunity to have social time where we get to develop our skills through play.

To develop our gross motor skills even more, we are also going to start a new programme called Write Dance which we are very excited about. We will also have a weekly letter formation and fine motor session to support our writing and pencil control.

Our class teacher is Mrs Cooper. Teaching Assistants are Miss Samra and Mrs Adams.
